Abstract

Tolerance is a personality’s basic ability in the system of multicultural competence’s value component consisting in a personality’s acceptance of cultural diversity as a social norm. Tolerance to cultural differences means not only the ability of their acceptance, but also search for solution of the arising problems. That is why the understanding of tolerance that is not accompanied by intercultural interaction may have a dangerous potential of propagating social passivity, conformism, individual and group isolation. Multicultural education secures formation of an individual’s multicultural competence as an integral system consisting of cognitive, value and action components. Tolerance is the basis for the value aspect of multicultural competence. Such a combination of personal abilities is мcreated due to students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills of analysis, formation of positive attitude to values common to all humankind and practical abilities of intercultural interaction.
