Abstract

The article is devoted to the new standards of education in Ukraine and their influence on the modern Ukrainian school. The article examines the conceptual differences between the State Standards of the New Ukrainian School and the former standards. It is shown that the most significant differences can be grouped into four groups: a holistic vision of a childʼs progress in education from 1st to 12th grade; taking into account the age characteristics of the childʼs development; implementation of the competence approach in the educational process; providing academic freedom to teachers and educational institutions. State standards of comprehensive general secondary education correspond to the basic principles of the concept of the New Ukrainian School and reflect global trends and innovations in the development of educational systems. Further research may be related to the study of the effectiveness of the implementation of new education standards in Ukraine. The real academic freedom of an educational institution is manifested in the fact that the educational program and curriculum, as an integral part of it, is an own product agreed upon by teachers, aimed at meeting the educational needs of students. This is achieved by the fact that the basic curriculum, which is a component of the State Standard, contains three gradations of the number of hours in each educational field: minimum, recommended and maximum. Within these hours, the teacher is able to vary during the creation of the educational institutionʼs own educational program. Of course, most teachers will be guided by model programs, because school textbooks are «tied» to them, but creating your own educational and training programs gives educational institutions and teachers real academic freedom. Summing up, it can be concluded that the new state standards of comprehensive general secondary education, created in accordance with the concept of the New Ukrainian School, reflect the main global trends in the development of educational systems, are based on democratic principles of the organization of the educational process, are aimed at meeting the educational needs of those seeking education, and are able to improve the quality of Ukrainian general secondary education.
