Abstract

From the first days of the COVID-19 pandemic, experts from around the world were concerned that forced distance learning would lead to massive learning losses among students. It is widely known that schooling reduces socioeconomic inequalities in academic performance, as school hours tend to be more favorable for children from lower-income families and socioeconomic backgrounds. Losing the opportunity to socialize with peers from different socioeconomic backgrounds can further limit learning opportunities, especially for children from disadvantaged families.
