Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of theoretical and practical aspects of the experience of introducing elective courses in profile schools as one of the trends in reforming education in Ukraine in 2011-2017 of the XXI century. The key guidelines for reforming the system of general secondary education, as presented in the legal documents, in particular: «Concepts of specialized education in high school» (2013); «Concept of the New Ukrainian School» (2016); updated version of the Law of Ukraine «On Education» (2017); «Draft concept of education development in Ukraine for the period 2015-2025» (2018), «Draft conceptual framework for reforming vocational education in Ukraine» Modern vocational education «(2018), etc. The essence of the concepts «profile education», «elective courses» are disclosed. The purpose and main tasks of realization of profile education are covered. An extensive description of the typology of profile education is given, namely: level (internal) and profile (external) differentiation, semi-open and hidden differentiation. The focus is on the main characteristics of elective courses and their target direction. The typology of elective courses (pre-profile and profile elective courses) from the point of view of different scientific approaches is singled out and characterized. The types of elective courses are distinguished, among which there are pre-profile and profile EC. The selection of pre-profile and profile elective courses consisted of: general-orientation EC, subject-orientation and interdisciplinary elective courses). Among the profile elective courses there are such as: interdisciplinary EC, elective courses in subjects that are not included in the basic curriculum. Examples of elective courses («Problems of ecology», «Effective behavior in conflict», «Conditions for successful communication», «Geography of human perspectives», etc.) are given and their semantic characteristics are revealed.
