Abstract

The study determined that formative assessment acts as an innovative form of interaction between a teacher and a student in basic secondary education, which allows not only to monitor his/her level of educational achievements, but also to ensure the individual educational trajectory of each student, which is built on the foundations active participation in education and conscious understanding of one's own gaps in education. It was established that formative assessment for the teacher provides numerous advantages, the most important of which are: the ability to identify and respond to learning problems in a timely manner, to exclude negative aspects of assessment, as well as to ensure the individualization of the educational process for each student. For the student, such advantages include opportunities to learn from one's own mistakes, to determine what one does not know and cannot do; to form an understanding of what is important and what is secondary, what success is, etc. It was determined that the effective implementation of formative assessment in basic secondary education requires the teacher to observe a number of principles and requires the selection of appropriate pedagogical tools.
