Abstract

The preprint (a collection of analytical papers) presents the analysis of Ukrainian and international experience in the formation of university social responsibility policy and its implementation during wartime and post-war revival. The study of foreign publications dedicated to university social responsibility policy formation and implementation during wartime and post-war revival confirmed the role of universities as catalysts of revival and change-makers. It was revealed that the war unleashed in February 2022 facilitated social changes, including the rise of social responsibility, and precipitated the review and rethinking of university social responsibility. The authors looked into engagement of Ukrainian universities with local communities in peacetime and wartime and identified the major vectors and directions of their collaboration. The collaboration between Ukrainian universities and NGOs has revealed lack of holistic systemic approach to such cooperation under conditions of war. Student and teacher wellbeing was identified as one of dimensions of university social responsibility; the analysis confirmed the aggravation of mental health of university staff and students under wartime; psychological support and rehabilitation techniques to be practiced by universities were recommended. The comparative analysis of university financial policies as a tool for social responsibility and sustainability of UK and Ukrainian universities was conducted and emphasized the significance of university financial autonomy during wartime and post-war revival. The analysis of discourse on Ukraine’s post-war revival revealed the absence of vision for Ukrainian universities’ social role and their contribution to revival.
