Abstract

The article emphasizes the necessity and priority of researching the problem of Ukraine's transformational policy on decommunization to decolonization and de-Russification in the conditions of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is caused by the socio-political situation within the country, which encourages the development of the national and cultural component of the state's activity. The authors note that the Euromaidan also gave impetus to full-scale decommunization on its territory (except for the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and ORDLO) during 2014–2017, and the full-scale Russian invasion of the territory of Ukraine from February 24, 2022 became a catalyst for a full-scale transformation decommunization into de-Russification and decolonization. These stages, according to the authors, are part of the implementation of the national memory policy. The article states that nowadays the general communist ideology has been almost completely supplanted by a separate national component, which reflected a compromise between society and power structures. Decolonization and de-Russification make it possible to more effectively address one's own heritage in order to form a single tool of public perception. In this sense, the creation of precedents for the introduction of newtoponymic names or their replacement with historical ones calls for the need for collective research work and the involvement of the public to discuss decisions made as a result of real socio-political phenomena caused by decommunization activities. The authors touch on such issues as: the occupation of Ukrainian lands, the presence of the names of Russian historical and cultural figures in the toponymy of settlements, and the eradication of the monumental-monumental layer dedicated to the Russian historical process. It is emphasized that, taking into account the use of national Ukrainian culture in the hybrid struggle on the part of the Russian side, the measures for decolonization and de-Russification have and will have a consistent character until complete completion.
