Abstract

The article presents the results of the analysis of the educational activities of P. Kulish and the disclosure of educational views in his works; it was found out that the greatness of the cultural ideas of P. Kulish lies in the struggle for the solution of the Ukrainian issue, namely: the scientist associated with the development of national literature and education, the spread of all strata of Ukrainians of works in their native language, the return of historical memory. The author reveals his views on the upbringing of children, on the fact that it is necessary to educate from childhood, defends the idea of a special role for the school business of elementary teachers", emphasizes that parents must first teach hildren, and "then elementary school"; insists on the need to form respect for parents in children, criticizes the pedagogical customs of the then school, which was alien, unkind to the child, the relevance of the problem of a teacher-scientist in a wide profile of his knowledge and deep views from ancient times up to the present time, which are now conditioned by the educational needs of Ukrainian schoolchildren, is substantiated. The educational, pedagogical works of P. Kulish are analyzed from the point of view of school education and it is stablished that the scientist reveals the attitude towards the Ukrainian school on the part of the family, the public, social institutions, determines his views on the role of the public school, the role and place of the teacher, schooling and education in the formation of the young rising eneration of Ukrainians; gives a positive example of organizing an elementary school with the help of the public in the United States and concludes that the school will cease to frighten both parents and the child “only when it becomes a new home for the child, with new social rights. The national-patriotic appeals of P. Kulish are defined, namely: create science on the basis of folk pedagogy, philosophical and educational considerations that were aimed at enriching the culture and education of the Ukrainian people, and his position is aimed at reviving his native school; mastering the ethics of his people. It is proved that P. Kulish considered the preservation of national traditions to be the main task of his work, fought for national education, took care of the preservation and development of the living Ukrainian language and its introduction into the scientific, literary, educational space; fought for the preservation of national culture and directed his activities in line with national identity.
