Abstract

The article considers the innovative practice of providing psychosocial support to the population on the basis of the salutogenic approach. Some theoretical researches concerning development of salutogenic doctrine and practice are stated. The experience of the United States, Israel, and Ukraine in providing psychosocial assistance to children and families affected by hostilities is analyzed. There is a high positive correlation between the quality of psychosocial help for these categories of the population and the use of a salutogenic approach. The main attention is paid to the formation of knowledge of the representatives of the psychological service of the education system about the peculiarities of the application of the salutogenic approach in practical work with clients. There are differences between the results of work in the case of a pathogenic approach, which focuses on the restoration of lost functions, and salutogenic, which involves reliance on preserved, resource parts of the psyche, personality, or social environment. Effective psychological practices of working with children and families using a salutogenic approach are presented. Emphasis is placed on the resource recovery model “BASIC Ph”, developed and tested by Israeli trauma therapist Muli Laad, which has found wide application in the practice of psychologists in eastern Ukraine. The concept of “coherence” is defined as a “sense of coherence” – a personality trait that reflects a person’s tendency to see the world as meaningful and manageable. In the case of a psychological crisis, the victim loses the connection in the dyad “I” – “World”, so the primary task of the psychologist is to restore such a connection. In this case, the involvement of preserved and healthy parts of the psyche, personality, or environment allows not only to restore the lost connection but also to develop new adaptive mechanisms. The results of the study encourage further development of work with children and families affected by the war in the east of the country on the basis of a salutogenic approach.
