Abstract

The article considers alexithymia as a heterogeneous phenomenon that can be caused by various factors or their interaction. We are talking about the following factors: psychophysiological (genetic, congenital, acquired); psychotraumatic (consequences of untreated traumatic experience experienced both in childhood and in adulthood, non-constructive immature mechanisms of psychological defense); individual psychological and psychological pedagogical (problems of early child development, consequences of violations of the relationship "child – mother", non-constructive attitude towards the child, type of attachment and style of upbringing, including overprotection and latent rejection), psycho-cultural (devaluation of the emotional sphere. in culture, the need for external thinking and adaptive behavior of the concrete-realistic type). Alexithymia can act as 1) a protective temporary reaction to unfavorable factors, 2) a person's state, which can be fixed, become habitual (but can be overcome by psychological work in favorable circumstances), 3) a stable trait, a property that is difficult to correct. If alexithymia as a reaction performs a protective function, then as a condition and especially a stable trait becomes a factor that prevents the development of a young person's personality. This is due to such manifestations of alexithymia as: difficulties in comprehending and describing their emotional experiences, defining them in other people; lack of emotional reflection and self-regulation (which causes emotional outbursts), problems in establishing positive interpersonal relationships (especially romantic relationships associated with feelings of happiness). Alexithymia has different, but closely related aspects (emotional, somatic, cognitive, behavioral, reflexive-semantic), each of which should be the target of influence in the process of correctional work. The formation of strategies for the prevention and overcoming of alexithymic manifestations in "conditionally healthy" people should take into account the etiology and all aspects of this phenomenon.
