Abstract

Information as a disciplinary term of cybernetics, computer science and social communication is represented the least in the field of psychological knowledge. The scientific study is conducted within the disciplinary research or at the edge of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge. However, the development of the information society initiates the revision of psychological achievements in new realities of public life. The concept of information is included in a vast number of categories of psychology (perception, communication, social interaction, mechanisms of mutual understanding, education, etc.). It makes the concepts of information and social information a category of general scientific knowledge which requires clarification of psychological definitions related to information issues. A transdisciplinary approach is considered as a tool that can help solve scientific problems. The notions of information theory, whose meaning in the field of psychological knowledge needs to be clarified, are defined through cross‐disciplinary analysis. These are the following ones: source / carrier of information and consumer of information; communication as a condition; types and properties of information; local and nonlocal forms of information; difference between data, knowledge, semantics and meanings; information measures and processes of entropy, transmitting and receiving information and particularly social information, information exchange and information space, etc. Taking into account of conceptual approaches to the study of the concept of information is considered as a way of improving the conceptual and methodological bases of the development of psychological studies and will reduce subjectivity while interpretating the received data. The author of the article tried to revise psychological knowledge in the context of scientific achievements of information theory and it can be a promising direction for the development of psychology in the context of the development of information society as a new form of society.
