Abstract

The article describes the peculiarities of constructing history textbook as a means of developing students' research competence (for example, textbooks "Introduction to history" for 5th grade students and "World history. History of Ukraine (integrated course)" for 6th grade students). The authors point out that the current priority of reforming school history education is to develop and create new generation textbooks that would motivate students in Generation Z to learn. According to the authors of the article, the main ways of forming students' research competence by means of history textbook are: a) problems in structuring the content of the textbook; b) the focus of the methodological apparatus on the development of students' ability to take a research position; c) the presence of research tasks to develop the skills of formulating assumptions, hypotheses; developing the ability to analyze and relate information from a variety of sources (educational material, historical sources, historical sites, the Internet, etc.); d) the orientation of the educational process to the achievement of the particular educational result by the students, in particular through the project activities of the students and the solution of research tasks; e) the availability of research assignments that involve working in pairs and groups on the base of the cooperative approach; f) developing students' ability to argue their own judgments, to display non-standard thinking; draw conclusions about the results obtained (knowledge, skills) and apply them in new situations. The authors of the article point out that in order to motivate students of Generation Z to study, the content of a modern history textbook should be based on communicative and research approaches and be mostly dialogic. According to the authors, the implementation of the elements of research studing in the history textbook implies that the structure and content of the textbook should include the means of organizing the productive activity of students: research, creative activity of the student; using the analogy method, comparing different perspectives and approaches to event coverage; reflective understanding of the obtained educational result.
