Abstract

The article covers the matters of some aspects of in-depth diagnostics of general, mental and speech development of children with severe speech disorders. The author proposes necessity of assessment of speech competence taking into account individual, age, psychological and physiological features, actual and potential ability of the child. An important diagnostic goal is to determine the compensatory role of the retained units of speech skills. Speech therapist must also compare the level of development of speech means with their actual use in speech communication.
