Abstract

The article describes the profiling of general secondary education of the XX century, which was relevant in all periods of development of national pedagogy; it is shown that if in the early stages of development of pedagogy and school profiling was based on external differences - gender, age, class, class, then it was oriented towards a departure from the utilitarian system of education, orientation of the educational policy on interests, abilities and requests of students through the education of your choice, coordinating it with the demanding needs of the labor market.
