Abstract
The problem of the formation of a elective component of the profile secondary biological education in connection with updating the contents of its invariant part is highlighted. Main features of the content of the elective component of profile biological education are polyfunctionality, structuredness and flexibility. The approaches to the formation of courses on the choice of biology in the structure of the elective component of the profile biological education are outlined.
