Abstract
The article is devoted to issue of perceiving the image of political leaders. It presents the findings of the psycho-semantic research focused on perception of the image of contemporary politicians by the university students. A comparative analysis has been made and specific features of perceiving the image of Ukrainian and foreign politicians have been determined. Main image attributes that young people use to evaluate politicians have been determined. It was found out that youth’s perception of Ukrainian politicians is contradictory. The dominant image attributes that form the core of the image of Ukrainian politicians are business (busyness, erudition, pragmatism) or emotional qualities (confidence, decisiveness, charisma). Ukrainian politicians lack mostly moral qualities (honesty, decency, altruism) and humanity (plainness, openness, generosity, reliability). It has been proved that foreign politicians had significantly higher marks for all image attributes in comparison with Ukrainian politicians. The most significant differences between foreign and Ukrainian politicians are observed in students’ evaluation of attributes “patriotism”, “reliability” and “decency”.
