Abstract
The article reveals the role of reading in human life and in the educational process in school. The researches of Ukrainian and foreign scientists on the identified problem are analyzed. The concept of «reader skills» is revealed. The experience of measuring individual aspects of reading in the developed countries of the world is described. Perspectives of Ukraine's participation in international studies on the quality of education are outlined.
