Abstract

The concept of the author’s master-class is analyzing the use of the theater, the art of drama and the playback theatre in particular, in psychotherapeutic practice: as a communication tool, as a catalyst for development and catharsis, as a space for free expression of feelings and spontaneity, etc. Based on three levels of client and art therapist interaction – verbal, nonverbal-paraverbal and unconscious – it is considered the work with the body as a nonverbal constant that expresses past, present and future identities, while providing continuity of "I"-feeling. It is theoretically justified that with the help of active body-plastic theatricalization one can remove emotional tension, can find the key to the psychological problems of the individual, can move from body’s controlling to "turning on" the contact with it and with the world, can restore personal continuity, can realize own corporeity and its cultural codes, can release and "expand" the body, etc. By the application of the principles, etudes and techniques of the playback theatre the master-class will explore how these opportunities can be realized in practice of art-therapeutic and dance-movement work with the bodily experience: by the creation of artistic images, by aware movement in space, by bodily contact with others, and by dividing into the mental states, both known and unknown before.
