Abstract
Leading the leadership in the development of the theory and practice of training penitentiary personnel for a long time, the scientific school of Academician VN Sineva founded a wide layer of scientific research in the field of the personality of the modern specialist in the system of execution of punishments. The leading place in this process belongs to the study of the psychological and pedagogical foundations of self-education of an officer of the penitentiary system.
