Abstract

The article is about an approach to planning and implementing academic and psychological supports for students with autism in education. We present the support’s model and disclose especially such of its stages as preparation, adaptation and full inclusion. Our model of support based on the system of early intervention, the next step – two interrelated processes: learning and psychological treatment, and the last stage of the educational process - the professionalization of students with autism. The emphasis is on a two-pronged approach to educating students with autism: the need to prepare both the environment for the child (inclusive approach) and the child for the environment in which he or she will be educated (integrative approach). The support system for students with autism is seen as a continuous process, as it includes the student’s entire educational life (from early intervention to joining the workforce). Preparing an educational institution for the inclusive education of children with autism involves the use of three groups of environmental resources, such as: 1) the object and space resources, 2) organizational and conceptual resources, 3) social and personal resources. Preparing the child for school involves harmonizing his or her psychological state, system transformation within the family, teaching him functional communication skills and how to interact with others. Our approach to the development of effective support for children with autism in educational institutions covers both the learning process and the development process. For the training activities success of the child with autism, we need to work out the basic structure of his mind, which are: tonic regulation, a basic sense of security and trust, as well as a sensual experience.
