Abstract

The factors of developing the current situation in Ukraine are analyzed in the situational context. The trends that charazterize it are defined as well as the prospects for its further research and analytical thinking. Attention is given to macro parameters of the current social situation in the country. Based on the analysis’s results of a nationwide representative surveys done by ISPP NAPS, it was determined that the increase in social tension in society is primarily a measure of reducing public confidence in the government, enhanced factor of political manipulation, when certain segments of public opinion are articulated and made “important” at critical moments in the Ukrainian statehood. These segments, such as language, historical memory, the foreign policy orientation, etc., acquiring decisive importance on the eve of election campaigns and virtually disappeared in the period between elections, turned into demarcation line dividing the regions of Ukraine and become factors of social disintegration. It is argued that since the dynamics of public expectations, the turbulence of public opinion depends on situational factors and the actions of the authorities in the regions of Ukraine, to the extent in times of crisis there are certain surge of protest moods, which are superimposed on the dynamics of distrust of the state as such, or at least to the institutions of state power and management. Despite the fact that the level of political activity depends on many factors and there should be a lot of these factors for protest moods to develop into real protest actions, the near future may bring us difficult unpredictable, situational combinations of the future, which may trigger mass riots.
