Abstract

The development of Ukrainian psychology requires research of scientific problems and publications in the world's leading periodicals. Ukraine is integrating into the Atlantic and European space. Therefore, the use of the experience of global research centres is relevant. Research publications in European journals are desirable. The section ‘Foreign English-language periodicals in psychological sciences’ provides information on English-language periodicals in psychological sciences published in North America, the United Kingdom, and a number of European countries. It is proposed to get acquainted with the ranking journals, most of which are indexed by world scientometric databases, in particular Web of Science and Scopus, and have the first and second quartiles. The leading publishers of psychological journals are SAGE Publications, American Psychological Association, Nature Publishing Group, Elsevier Inc, Academic Press Inc. It has been found that American and British journals have predominantly high Hirsch and SJR indices. Among them are generalist journals such as Psychological Science in the Public Interest, Psychological Bulletin, Journal of Applied Psychology, Advances in Methods and Practices in Psychological Science, Perspectives on Psychological Science, and highly specialised journals such as Clinical Psychology Review, Personality and Social Psychology Review, Leadership Quarterly, Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Contemporary Educational Psychology. Cognition and Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology, which are published in the Netherlands and Germany, are also considered to be top-rated journals in psychology. These journals are highly specialized. Among European journals, the highest-rated is the Journal of Behavioural Addictions, published by the Hungarian publishing house Akadémiai Kiadó. The Hungarian Journal of Behavioural Addictions has the highest ranking among all Central European journals and is in the first and second quartiles.
