Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive theoretical analysis and systematization of conceptual approaches to understanding the phenomenon of psychological maturity of personality. The relevance of the research is determined by the growing demands on the individual's ability to function effectively in conditions of rapid social transformations and the need to form a holistic understanding of the nature, structure, and mechanisms of achieving personal maturity. The article thoroughly analyzes the main theoretical paradigms of psychological maturity research. It examines the psychoanalytic approach, represented by the works of S. Freud, who linked maturity with the ability to «love and work» and C. Jung, who viewed it through the lens of the individuation process. The humanistic research direction of A. Maslow and C. Rogers is highlighted, where psychological maturity is considered in the context of self-actualization and full functioning of personality. The existential-humanistic approach of F. Perls and E. Fromm, who emphasized autonomy, authenticity, and the capacity for mature love, is analyzed. The features of understanding psychological maturity in developmental psychology are revealed, particularly in the theories of E. Erikson and J. Loevinger, who viewed it as a result of successfully passing through developmental stages. The dispositional approach of G. Allport, who proposed a system of specific criteria for psychological maturity, is detailed. Special attention is paid to the specifics of psychological maturity research in domestic psychology, where the emphasis shifts to the subjective characteristics of personality and its capacity for self-determination. The contribution of Ukrainian scholars to the development of this field is presented, including works by O. Shtepa, T. Tytarenko, M. Savchyn, H. Domina, L. Potapchuk, V. Radul, and other researchers. Based on the integration of various theoretical approaches, key components of psychological maturity are identified and characterized: responsibility, realistic worldview, striving for self-actualization, self-acceptance, autonomy, creative realization, personality integrity, multifaceted development, and capacity for deep interpersonal relationships. It is established that the achievement of psychological maturity by an individual most fully occurs during middle adulthood (35-45 years). The article outlines promising directions for further research, which include developing an integrative model of psychological maturity considering both universal characteristics of this phenomenon and its culture-specific features, as well as creating valid diagnostic tools for assessing the level of psychological maturity of personality.
