Abstract

The paper is devoted to analyses of the process of transformation of university mission at temporal intersection during historical development of European civilization. Since their origin at late Middle Age the first universities were concentrated on teaching as the main component of their mission. Radical transformation of European civilization in New time leaded to transmission of accent toward research as an essential component of university mission. This change was reflected in the classical model of university, which was established at the beginning of the XIX century by Wilhelm von Humboldt. Since the 2nd half of the XX century research began to dominate in the structure of mission of the leading world universities and this tendency continues in the XXI century. So, it is really crucial to understand the relations of teaching and research in activities of contemporary elite university.
