Abstract

The article deals with the historical aspects of the origin, establishment and development of horting, national kind of sports, in Ukraine. The author shows that the name of Horting martial arts comes from well-known Khortytsya island in the Dnieper River. Nowadays children, pupils and adults in Ukraine and in many European countries and in the world go in for horting. This sport is based on the principles of long-term, all the year, specially organized training of children and young people and aimed at developing a comprehensive, ethical and patriotic education. It has been recognized as the national kind of sports in our country and other twenty-six countries. Work program of horting classes for children has been approved by the expert committee on the program-methodical ware of recreation and sports activities. Attention is drawn to the study and analysis of the history of establishment and development of Horting in Ukraine as a new kind of sports based on the martial traditions of the Ukrainian people.
