Abstract

The article deals with an analysis of scientific theoretical approaches to determination of the essences of the concepts «self-consciousness» and «moral self-consciousness» of personality. Moral self-consciousness is determined to be the ideal reflection of activity and relations of morality in a person’s consciousness and their specific moral substantiation. It is an integrative personal formation that represents the world of moral values from positions of good and evil, regulates the conduct of a person based on generally accepted and interiorized moral norms, provides free and responsible choice of deeds, their analysis and evaluation. Next to the psychical processes, directed on the internal world of a person, there is a system of values as important semantic elements of moral selfconsciousness. Basic personality values as elements of moral self-consciousness are selected: freedom (the possibility to choose in the area of good and evil opposition); responsibility (the ability to select, formulate problems and make decision concerning methods of their solving; not only realize certain actions, but also foresee their possible consequences); conscience (the ability to determine moral duties independently and to carry out moral self-control, require from itself their implementation and to estimate the deeds); dignity (attitude of a person towards itself and attitude toward others); self-sufficiency (the ability to make decisions independently, to have own opinion, to regulate the conduct independently). The age features of junior schoolchildren (pupils of 1-2 grades), which influence the development of their moral self-consciousness, supporting or impeding this process, are described. Junior schoolchildren’s self-consciousness is insufficiently stable, consists of single images of themselves and own conduct; however, there is no integral, adequate understanding of themselves.
