Abstract
Тhe article presents the results of the analysis of documents regulating in Ukraine the content of the biological component of the educational field "Natural Science" from the standpoint of reflecting subject competences and competencies in them, reveals the features of the structure of subject competences in biology, focuses on the value component of subject competences as the least developed, directions for further methodological searches for ways to implement competence-based teaching biology for students of general education institutions.
