Abstract

The author stated that with the adoption of the European reference framework of key competences for lifelong learning (2006, 2011) the EU has proposed a new concept of modern European education. It should form vital characteristics of universal nature for use in various rapidly changing contexts – individual, professional, social. It is revealed that the competence idea has a strong influence outside the EU. Proof of this is its progress in Ukraine. Today, education in Ukraine is recognized by law as competency-based. It is concluded that understanding the innovative experience of the EU and dissemination of it among the pedagogical community in Ukraine is relevant for national education.
