Abstract

The monograph highlights the results of the research of rural youth social identity transformation as a result of migration to city. Social and psychological factors which motivate young people to move to city are considered. The features of social identity of rural and urban youth are compared. The essence of psychological mechanisms is revealed and the stages of social identity transformation are singled out. It was shown how these mechanisms operate in different social and demographic groups of young people. The basic strategies of social and psychological adaptation of rural youth in city are analyzed. The directions and forms of work which aims to prevent a possible exclusion of former rural people and overcome the negative effects of exclusion are outlined. The monograph may be interesting to researchers, teachers, psychologists, practitioners, graduate students, representatives of public authorities and all those are interested in the migration of rural youth and the transformation of social identity that usually accompanies this process.
