Abstract
In the comparative aspect the main tendencies of development of educational systems in the countries of the European Union and in Ukraine are considered. It is stated that Ukraine is characterized by such trends in education as: monitoring the quality of education, accelerating education reform through human resources development, development of effective state educational programs and standards, introduction of certification of research and teaching staff, improvement of education management mechanisms, strategic planning, formation of educational policies, etc.
