Abstract

This article is devoted to determining the psychosocial resources of cancer patients. The history of formation of oncopsychology, its differences from psycho-oncology, current state of oncological and psychological researches are analyzed. The basic concepts of the resource model of adaptation of personality to oncology are described, the stages of adaptation and the psychological content of each stage of treatment are highlighted, it is emphasized that in the case of oncological illness it is not about recovery, but about short and long-term remission, respectively, the psychological peculiarities of different types of cancer. The features of post-traumatic growth and resistance and the types of social support for cancer patients are identified. The components of the psycho-oncological model of counseling help as a short-term intervention, based on the assumption of the duration and exhaustion of drug treatment, which requires the activation of all its resources, are outlined.
