Abstract

The global trends in the field of textbook development for school education (internationalization both in terms of production and of content; the transformation of the textbook concept; the growth of electronic textbooks) are analysed. The tendency of using open textbooks as one of the key trends is underlined. It is emphasized that open textbooks are an integral part of the global movement for open educational resources and open education. The conclusion is made of the prospects of an open textbook in the context of the digital revolution and of equal access to education.
