Abstract
The author characterizes the approaches to interpretation of the terms «educational standard», «content standard», «performance standard», «opportunity-to-learn standard» abroad; studies the functions of the standards which comprise a system of basic indicators (core curriculum) formation, ensuring a child-centered approach to curriculum translation, defining the education process outcomes, guaranteeing a sufficient minimum of knowledge to each pupil.
