Abstract

The educational manual is devoted to the aspects of the judge's activity in the debate. The manual summarizes the theoretical foundations and more than a decade of experience in organizing and holding debate tournaments at various levels. The approach is based on the debate as a pedagogical technology. The educational and technological model of judging in debate is substantiated and described. The theoretical part defines the content of the judging, the role of the judge in the debate is revealed, the structure of the judge's competence is characterized, the philosophy of judging is substantiated, the conditions of its efficiency are formulated, the elements and stages of the judges' preparation for the debate are described, the criteria of judge’s evaluation of the debate are determined, the content and forms of judge’s comments are described. In the practical part of the manual, there are training exercises, test and practical tasks, exercises which will help a newly arrived judge to prepare for debate judging by themselves, and for the experienced judge - to improve their knowledge and skills. The manual will be useful to judges, debaters, heads of debate clubs, coaches of debate teams, organizers of debate tournaments, all enthusiasts and supporters of the debate who are avid members of the debate community.
