Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the empirical study of the regional differences in the student communication practices of civic and national self-identification. It presents the factor models of the semantic constructs which define self-identification parameters, and outline regional peculiarities of the communication practices which determine student civic and national self-identification processes. It is proved that the basic meanings of the youth communication practices in different regions of the country substantially differ. The youth of the central region focuses their attention on the aims of civic identification; the youth of the east chooses vectors of self-identification, the youth of the northern region concentrates on the regional identification; their fellow students in the central and southern regions discuss resources of civic identification and determine the degree of civic participation and its consequences. Communication practices of the majority of the respondents are represented by the meanings characteristic of the first (identity marking) and the second (symbolic comprehension ) levels of civic identification. The meanings representing the third and fourth levels of self-identification (construction of categories and ideals which individuals identify themselves with and construction of conditions and rules of transforming the reality) is articulated in practice schematically. The number of respondents with the identity marking self-identification (protoidentity) is bigger in the north and the east (57 and 56% accordingly); the smallest number of this group representatives can be found in the central region (29%). The author identifies the least articulated meanings of civic and national self-identification in every region.
