Abstract

The article describes the artistic activity of a preschool child as a specific kind of activity that conduces the development of percipiency, imagination, image thinking, memory, while their progress level is reflected in the process and the results of the artistic activity. Artistic activity is understood as a means by which children depict objects and facts of the substantial world and their attitude towards the latter. Functions of the artistical activity are listed: hedonystic, aesthetic, educatory, awareness-raising, communicative, socializing, heuristic, health-preserving. This helps understand the meaning of such activity and account for the preschooler’s integral development in the co-operation of different spheres: their motive, intellect, feelings and emotions, social communication, behavior, and activity. The mastering of the artistic activity does not spontaneously occur, but needs a pedagogical guidance from the early age — this requires awareness of child psychology, of characteristic aspects of this professional field, and of facilities for the development (artistic and general) conditioned with it. The course of the pre-depictive stage of artistic activity, corresponding to the 2-3 years of age, is relied. Its microstages are marked out: the hatchline stage, i. e., a child’s specific and non-specific acting with materials, repeating uninterrupted moves of a hand with a pencil; recognizing an object in scribbles, which a child assotiates with this or that object; a switchover to drawing by design — when an intention appears to depict something, the object is given a name, and then it is created by artistic means. The last microstage indicates the passover to artistic activity as such. Sample tasks for pedagogues in the process of organizing and conducting artistic activities with the children of early age are presented, comprising: a maximal repleting of a child with artistic impressions; helping children master comprehensible creative means in painting, modelling, and applique, getting them acquainted with diverse artistic tools and materials; involving them into art games and creation of various images. The desirable results in a child’s artistic development by the end of the third life year are discriminated. By the example of original DIY art albums of “The Wonderworks” series, the content and method of working at a pre-depictive stage are disclosed, aimed at the molding of the basics of image creation, at the aristic and aesthetic development of a child from 1 till 3 years old.
