Abstract

Introduction. Due to the introduction of the new state standard of basic secondary education, scientists and teachers faced the problem of developing effective methods that can provide new results and testing them in educational institutions. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to clarify the concept of the «textbook method in Ukrainian language lessons», and to define the techniques that create the structure of the method and didactic opportunities in the development of a competent speaker. Methods. Analysis, synthesis, concretization, classification, comparison, and generalization of scientific sources on the research topic were used. Results. The article clarifies the concept of the «textbook method in Ukrainian language lessons» in the development of a competent speaker. It is noted that the transformation of the method involves not just a change of name (information source method), but above all the desire to make it interesting, attractive, and productive. The techniques that create the structure of the method and didactic possibilities are defined: motivation; goal setting; making assumptions (hypothesizing); tasks definition; raising questions; comprehension of headings, and epigraphs; planning; transfer (using the information in a different context); analysis; highlighting the main and secondary; writing out; weeding out the superfluous; determining the topic, main idea; structuring the text; making a list; selecting a heading; creating a word cloud; identifying and defining the problem; identifying the thesis and arguments; reformatting textual information into graphic, digital; generalization; associating details of information with vivid images; drawing conclusions; reflection. The advantages of the new transfer method are determined. Originality. Effective strategies of semantic reading and working with the text are outlined, for example, the strategy of information search and reading comprehension involves such steps as determining the topic, main idea, and purpose; formulation of the thesis; the strategy of transforming and interpreting information contains such steps as structuring texts using lists, headings, references; transformation of the text array into other forms of information representation – tables, diagrams, tag clouds, interpretation of the text; the strategy of evaluating information involves the ability to connect the information contained in the text with the knowledge available to students and acquired by them from other sources, search for arguments to prove their own view, evaluate the content and form of the text, the author’s use of language, express their own opinion about the text. Conclusion. The method of working with a textbook (information source method) is an important component of a modern Ukrainian language lesson. The transformation of the method involves the desire to make it interesting, attractive, and productive. We see the prospects for further research in the creation of a passport of the method of working with the source of information, studying the features of the application of this method in distance learning.
