Abstract

The article examines the philosophical concepts of personality development in the views of outstanding Ukrainian thinkers – the philosopher of the 18th Century Hryhoriy Skovoroda and the modern philosopher Vasyl Kremen. The historical determinism of the emergence of these concepts as a response to the challenges of civilizational transformations is noted. The philosophical concept of Hryhoriy Skovoroda summarized the views of his predecessors – teachers of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, whose philosophy courses he attended as a student. The main theses of the philosophical concept of personality development are the following: self-knowledge of the personality, which determines the knowledge of the world and the definition of “affinity”, that is, inclinations to a certain type of work, which, according to the philosopher, guarantees the harmonious inclusion of the personality in society, as well as its happiness. The Ukrainian thinker emphasized spiritual development and morality, which should precede intellectual and physical development. He considered the material to be unnecessary, and the spiritual to be of primary importance. Under the conditions of the historical circumstances of the enslavement of the Ukrainian nation and the deprivation of its statehood in the 18th Century, Hryhoriy Skovoroda, thanks to his decision to travel, managed to carry out the mission of enlightening the Ukrainian people and preserving his teachings for posterity, which is the genius of the Ukrainian philosopher. The philosophical concept of personality development of the Ukrainian philosopher of the 20th Century, Vasyl Kremen, which is included in the totality of his philosophical works, which has the definition of human centrism, continues the national humanistic tradition of philosophizing. The idea of personality development according to Vasyl Kremen is that only a developed personality is capable of critical understanding of information, and therefore of independent conscious action. Only developed individuals can form a modern nation capable of building a democratic state in the conditions of the modern world. The genius of our contemporary was manifested not only in the creation of a popular humanistic concept, but also in the implementation of social transformations based on its postulates. The common features of the concepts are singled out – the humanistic basis, the focus on the development of the individual as the basis of social development. A conclusion is made about the value of the philosophical concepts of Ukrainian thinkers as a basis for the development of the national idea, which consists in the unification of the nation and the further development of an independent Ukraine.
