Abstract

Reading fiction by teenagers occupies an important place in the literary Education of modern schoolchildren. Modern prose for children is diverse in genres and themes. This is biographical, adventure, fantasy, realistic and historical prose, detective stories. Since 2005, modern Ukrainian historical prose for children has been gradually developing – these are works of art of various genres that reflect important events and figures of a particular historical period. However, they are presented through artistic images created by the imagination and talent of writers. Works of historical subjects are interesting for students’ perception (they better help to understand certain historical processes, events), and therefore they should be present in the school curriculum and extracurricular reading, since the reader not only states the events of the past, but also draws his attitude to the events depicted, understands the chains of interdependence between the past and the present.
