Abstract

The preprint (a collection of analytical papers) is aimed at identification and substantiation of theoretical foundations underlying university social responsibility and its implementation. The analysis of contemporary conceptual frameworks and interpretations of university social responsibility is undertaken; the university social responsibility theory rooted in knowledge triangle is devised and based on this the definition of university social responsibility is given. University social responsibility is considered in the context of sustainable development. Several models that represent and interpret university — community engagement in the context of sustainable development are proposed. Students’ roles in university social responsibility implementation are examined from two angles: university responsibility to the students and students’ responsibility per se when students are regarded as members of university community. Leading international university rankings regarding indicators and measurements of university social responsibility and its financial backing and provision are investigated. The trend towards boosting university social responsibility under sustainable investment is identified, as well as the trend towards enhancement of collaboration between universities and NGOs in the context of university social responsibility.
