Abstract

The publication determined that the relevance of the study of social representations lies primarily in the fact that they are one of the factors that largely determine the behavior of social groups and individual individuals. On the basis of theoretical analysis, an overview of the most common definitions of the concept was made, its structure and functions were determined. It was revealed that the forms and methods of social cognition and the value priorities that regulate the behavior of an individual are determined by the content of social representations. It was established that the methodological apparatus of the theory of social representations and its research potential make it possible to study not only group, but also individual consciousness.
