Abstract

A modern physics textbook from a medium of learning content, which reflects the basics of natural science at the appropriate educational and age level, turns into an effective tool for personality development, the formation of subject and key competencies. At various stages of textbook creation, the authors of textbooks were guided by the principle of applied learning orientation when determining the content and developing the methodology for studying the school physics course. The results of the analysis of the scientific literature on the researched problem indicate that the authors of the physics textbooks select educational material of an applied nature, which should be studied in the school course. The selection criterion is the significance of the application of equipment and technologies in production and the prospects of their formation at a certain stage of the development of society. It is quite difficult to reconcile the content of textbooks with the principle of applied orientation of school physical education due to the intensive development of science, technology and the rapid growth of the amount of knowledge.
