Abstract

The author emphasizes the need to speed up urgent reforms, in particular the reform in education, which is caused by the realities associated with Ukraine as a candidate country for membership in the European Union. The intellectual component of education is considered in the article as an important condition for the formation of gifted children as representatives of the future European elite of Ukraine. The author raises the issue of restoration and return of Ukrainian history stolen and appropriated by Muscovites (historical evidence is given). The main constituents of the construction of modern Ukrainian identity with the perspective of its matching with the supranational European identity are defined. The article reveals the problem of formation of national and cultural identity in the lessons of social and humanitarian subjects. Specific recommendations are provided.
