Abstract

The article is devoted to the philosophical investigation of axiological problems of higher education of the present day and to outlining the basic strategies of its development in the 21st c., related to the task of forming a new type of human personality, capable of living and acting under the conditions of complexity and unpredictability of the world. The work substantiates the specificity of contemporary knowledge, which consists in the fundamental absence of ready-made formulas and instructions for effective imitation; accordingly, the purpose of higher education today is not to provide students with a certain amount of knowledge, but to form critical, independent and original thinking in them. It is demonstrated that this formulation of the question corresponds to the national Ukrainian traditions of philosophical thought with its inherent humanism and orientation on accounting the fullness of the qualities of human personality. The article substantiates that the level of the general culture of a person, mastering the ability to think creatively about phenomena and things, in particular the newest and the unpredictable, is the key to successful human life in the world of the 21st century and this it should serve as a major value while outlining of the development of higher education on the basis of human-dimensional, personal approach. It is the general level of personality development, achieved in particular through the studying of philosophy and humanities, that serves as the basis and guarantee of human competence in almost every sphere of life, the basis for obtaining any specific knowledge and skills, the ability to absorb the information into personal knowledge.
