Abstract

Today’s challenges highlight the need to develop creative thinking for professional self-realization in the and meet the needs and flow of daily life. The article deals with the basic principles of the special course “Development of design thinking by means of art” aimed at motivating teachers to learn a new way of thinking – design thinking – with the help of art. Design thinking is a method of creating products and services focused on people; a process when researchers try to understand the consumers and their problems, make and test assumptions, change the problem statement, and try to find alternative strategies and solutions. According to the classic methodology of design thinking according to Stanford d.school, there are five stages of the process: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The content of the special course is based on the philosophy of identifying the requirements for the specialist, which is the basis of the Bologna Process and the International Project of the European Commission (Tuning Educational Structures in Europe, TUNING) focused on implementing the principles and models of open education. The purpose of the special course is to direct educators towards new understanding the process of development and creation of educational products (lectures, lessons, projects, presentations, etc.) on the basis of step-by-step design of content and forms of education with a focus on consumers of educational services (pupils, students) and build confidence that established approaches can be motivated to change, adjust and guide their professional activities in line with modern world challenges, updated social requirements, the students’ needs. The results of the effectiveness of the special course are monitored before, during and after its implementation. Feedback from students, quantitative and qualitative results of the study has shown that the proposed special course is relevant and in demand by teachers-practitioners; its new content is useful for self-education of teachers of different categories; in general, promotes the effective implementation of innovations in the activities of educational institutions of different levels.
