Abstract

The paper analyzes the use of the DOI CrossRef service to obtain metadata from academic publishers and scientific journals, which plays an important role in modern scientific communication. In the two decades of its existence, CrossRef has created a database of more than 100 million descriptions of scientific publications. Based on the DOI CrossRef database, the Unpaywall service is being developed to determine the availability of full-text publications, which can be accessed from search results in reputable databases and search engines in thousands of libraries around the world. Familiarity with the new features of DOI CrossRef, understanding the mechanism of their work is necessary for effective use of the opportunities they provide to authors and publishers of scientific publications.
