Abstract

The article reveals the problem of the teacher's personality in the creative heritage of the great scientist, humanist thinker, philosopher Grigory Savich Skovoroda. It is shown that the work of Skovoroda was one of the sources from which the advanced Ukrainian culture, folk art, philosophy and public education developed. It is revealed that his pedagogical system was based on the principles of: national education and upbringing; the nature of matching upbringing; the unity of training and education and the combination of mental and physical labor in educational activities, without which there is no joy and peace. It is proved that G.S. Skovoroda deeply respected the work of the teacher and at the same time was demanding of him. He repeatedly stated that the strength of a teacher is in his knowledge, nobility, dignity, honesty, love and respect for children, his profession and constant service to good. Defining the role of the teacher in the life of society, G.S. Skovoroda proceeded from the tasks and requirements that a teacher must comply with in a truly popular school. The teacher, in his opinion, should be an educated person who has deeply mastered his science, able to teach children to know the world, to navigate not only in modern events, but also to understand the past, able to foresee the future.
