Abstract

The scientific and analytical report provides a comparative analysis of the basic secondary education content in 38 countries of Europe and Ukraine. It was revealed how long basic secondary education is in European countries and the age of students when they study in basic secondary education institutions. These data are compared with Ukraine. The curricula for basic secondary education of 9 countries of Europe and Ukraine are analysed. The place of the main fields and some subjects (State Language, Literature, Foreign Language) in basic secondary education is disclosed. A comparative analysis of data as to the minimum study time (in %) for the four compulsory educational fields (Linguistic and Literary, Mathematical, Natural, Civic, and Historical) in European countries and the success of 15-year-olds from European countries in Reading, Mathematics, and Natural Sciences was carried out according to the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) data. Proposals for improving the content of basic secondary education in Ukraine in the context of European transformational educational processes are given.
