Abstract

The past year has been challenging for humanity, in particular for the education system around the world. Due to COVID‐19 the usual training was interrupted, national educational institutions in most countries of the world as well as in Ukraine were closed. The educational community has made a lot of effort to ensure continuous learning process during this period. At the same time, students also had to rely on their own resources to continue studying distantly using the Internet, television, and radio. In other words, due to the transition to full online learning, it was necessary to involve the digitalization system in order to maintain communication between students and teachers who are located in different towns, cities and continents. The article highlights the problem of digitalization of professional (vocational and technical) education (hereinafter – P(VT)E) of students, their mastery of modern digital and software skills. An analysis of UNESCO documents on the development and implementation of soft skills has been conducted, which reflects the solution of the needs for the development of soft skills among students of P(VT) E institutions for their smooth transition to new opportunities during the digitalization period. Also, projects on the development of soft skills in P(VT)E, in which representatives of different countries participated, were analysed. The purpose of these projects is to reveal the potential of new skills among students for their smooth transition to the labour market. A review of international standards on digital skills was carried out, namely the "National standards for essential digital skills" 2019. It is high time to improve the above‐mentioned soft skills during the studying period and the use of digital technologies by students and teachers who belong to the professional (vocational and technical) education sphere, with the aim of the competitiveness of future workers on the labour market.
