Abstract

The article deals with the life path of the head speech therapy laboratory of the Defectology Department of the Research Institute of Pedagogics of the Ukrainian SSR, the Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Iryna Diomina. Based on archival documents the authors described the little-known facts about life and creative activity one of the first speech therapists in Ukraine, disclosed the major milestones of the organizational and research work of the laboratory team, which she headed for 20 years. Researchers found that special interest is caused by scientific developments related to the diagnostic and organizational work of speech therapists on the basis of the experimental site – boarding school for children with speech impairments № 7 in Kyiv. In this institution of special education that the work was carried out to study the clinical characteristics of children with various speech disorders, to verify the effectiveness of the methods to providing speech-aid to students, for improving the qualification of speech therapists. In the article it is noted that many important scientific papers of I.Y. Diomina were published as a result of this experimental work. Among them are manuals, which have kept practical value to this day: «Study of children with severe speech disorders», «Medical and recreational work at school for children with severe speech disorders», «Individual approach in logopedic work with stuttering schoolchildren », «Methods of conducting individual speech therapy classes», «Program-methodical instructions for the correction of speech underdevelopment of children of preschool age».
